Quick home-made lunch

As a follow up from step one to creating a healthy lifestyle here is an example of how to start creating the habit of cooking at home vs eating out. Today I made a ham sandwich with avocado and spread mayo on one side of the bread. I also took a handful of grapes and had an orange. Now if you have trouble eating strict and healthy it's ok grab some chips or pretzels BUT keep in mind this will only delay the healthy lifestyle transition... So instead of swinging through Mc D's make a sandwich and start creating the habit of cooking/ preparing home foods.

Creating a Healthy Lifestyle Step 1: Home Cooking

The first step to creating a life long healthy lifestyle vs crash dieting is creating the habit of eating at home instead of eating out. This way you're in control of what you eat and be taking this first step you can easily start adding more and more steps to your creation of a health lifestyle. Here is a simple lunch I made when I started creating the habit of eating at home...

I got thin sliced whole grain bread; turkey meat; sliced avocado and a side of grapes with an orange. It was so yummy and soooo easy to make... The first step to creating a healthy lifestyle "diet" is to get in the habit of cooking at home and preparing your lunches before a long work day. Just take it easy with this habit don't go all out cooking 3 meals a day and over doing it or it will NOT stick the habit will be harder to create if you over do it. Start with cooking one meal a day if you're already doing that then cook one meal and pack your lunch of a home cooked meal.

Get your kid to love their veggies Tip #3

When forcing your children to eat their veggies it's a very challenging thing to do it causes resistance instead of opening them up to new things. Tip 3 is about allowing your children to pick their veggies; give them choices and let them interact in the cooking process of the food. It's so much more fun to watch the food being cooked then it is to look at your plate and go what is this green stuff?? Teach your children how to cook their veggies and let them stir the pot or put in seasoning you will be amazing how excited they are to eat the food they cooked!

So give it a try allow your child to help in the cooking process and see what their reaction is when it's time to eat!

Get your kid to love their veggies Tip #2

When trying to get your child to eat their veggies don't stress! It's a process for them to understand how important veggies are; my second tip is about communicating to your child what veggies are and why they are important. If you child can have a conversation with you then they are very ready to have an understanding of what veggies are and why they are so important.

After continuously offering your child veggies with every meal you have with them start asking questions to get them thinking...

Do you know why it's important to eat your veggies
What is your fav veggie

You can make the understanding very simple such as "it make yous strong and healthy" children are extremely smart and you can have a conversation with them about veggies just as you can with an adult. Next time you eat a meal with your child start engaging them in a conversation about eating their vegetables you will be surprised the questions they start asking.
