White rice vs Brown rice

White rice verses brown rice; so many different points of views and opinions. These two are from the same place but both have different outcomes! I personally love brown rice but there are times with certain foods such as red beans and rice (LOL) that I prefer white rice.

Here are some facts about white rice and brown rice.

White can be used to help rid diarrhea where as brown rice can be used for constipation.

The key difference between the two is white rice stripped of nutrients creating it to be a pure carb there is only .6 g per cup of dietary fiber in white rice where as brown rice has 3.5 g per cup. Brown rice is a whole grain not being stripped of its nutrients.

So in conclusion white rice may have a better taste at times brown rice is more nutritional when it comes to fiber intake and it's so important to consume fiber! Click here to learn more about fiber

Calorie Comparison! What are you eating?!

 Sometimes we don't think about how many calories are a few oreos!!!! Yes they might taste good but they are NOT good for you!!! Check out this chart that compares various food items! Look at all that food for the same amount of calories as 1lb of Oreos WOW! This calorie comparison just gives an idea of the amount of junk we eat and don't think about it!!

Quick home-made lunch

As a follow up from step one to creating a healthy lifestyle here is an example of how to start creating the habit of cooking at home vs eating out. Today I made a ham sandwich with avocado and spread mayo on one side of the bread. I also took a handful of grapes and had an orange. Now if you have trouble eating strict and healthy it's ok grab some chips or pretzels BUT keep in mind this will only delay the healthy lifestyle transition... So instead of swinging through Mc D's make a sandwich and start creating the habit of cooking/ preparing home foods.

Mid morning snack

(Don't mind the rough look; JUST got done working out)

Blended up 3 strawberries
two scoops of strawberry GREEK yogurt
 half a banana and 
crushed ice with a splash of milk 
(you can also use water but I'm new to the shake snacks so I'm not ready to be hard core yet lol)

The reason I put Greek in caps is because lots of yogurt has high fructose corn syrup and that's not very healthy it's an artificial sweeter and Greek yogurt doesn't have all the extra "stuff"

It was so yummy; perfect mid morning snack

*You can also replace this for a meal but make sure you add a protein power of some sort because a fruit shake is NOT a good way to replace a meal in my personal opinion!!


Fish for dinner!


Picked up some cod and crab cakes at the local fish market made some brown rice and baked asparagus!  Amazing I must say :)

Kids Meal Idea 1


Over the next few weeks ill be posting examples of kids dinners and snacks... I know its stressful being a first time parent so I've done some research on ideas for ideas check out what gia ate for lunch this Saturday!
Fruit cup; chicken and broccoli with undercover veggies to add flavor and extra serving of veggies! Gia loves it and won't eat broccoli with out it...

I lost 30 lbs! before & after photos






As a new mom and entrepreneur my crazy busy lifestyle made it hard to lose weight from having a child and I never thought I would be able to lose the 50+ lbs I gained when I had my daughter Gia. Well I was blessed to stumble across a company called "My Smart Healthy" they have prepacked all natural; gluten free; meals shipped straight to your door all you do is heat and eat!!! I started JUST eating the food and lost 7 lbs in the first few weeks. There is nothing special about this it's simply a change in lifestyle. I ate the portioned food and followed their meal plan of eating 5-6 small meals a day and the weight almost fell off! I am now working out and the weight is coming off faster and faster!! I want to lose another 20 lbs so stay tuned....
